Chapters, tests and the shape of the full game

The studio has confirmed five chapters, more than 15 main tests, seven optional tests and 13 endings. Here is what that means — and what it does not.

Confirmed structure

In its September 5, 2026 development update, HO! Games gave the clearest breakdown yet of the full game’s contents:

5
chapters

The demo contains Chapter 1 and roughly half of Chapter 2.

15+
main tests

Some are simple conversations; others are elaborate set pieces.

7
optional tests

“Find if you dig a little deeper,” according to the developer.

The same update reports over 150 main dialogue choices and over600 optional dialogue choices. Those numbers matter more than a playtime estimate: they suggest a game that expects replays, not a single canonical conversation.

All scope figures here come from HO! Games’ September 5, 2026 Steam announcement, “Update on Am I Nima’s release date and peek into development.” The post also confirms five environments, 300+ inspectable objects, 230+ words, 5,000+ combinations and 13 endings.

What is a test?

A test is a structured conversation in which Mom asks Nima to identify, remember or explain something. The player answers by choosing words. The exterior is domestic — a bowl of food, a plush toy, a fossil — but the interior is an interrogation.

Tests are not a separate minigame mode with a score screen. They are the story’s main dramatic unit. The earlier demo’s test scenes combine object inspection, word combination and dialogue in one continuous sequence.

Anatomy of a test

  1. Prompt. Mom places an object or asks a question with emotional stakes.
  2. Recall. The player searches the word library for a response that fits the memory.
  3. Choice. A word is spoken. The response changes Mom’s tone or the available dialogue.
  4. Consequence. The test ends in approval, suspicion, confrontation or a branch. In the full game, these outcomes contribute to one of 13 endings.

Known test formats

The developer has shown or described several forms of test without listing chapter names or specific puzzle solutions. The confirmed formats so far:

FormatWhere seenWhat it asks
Item associationDemo: congee, shark plush, fossilWhat does this object make you think or feel?
Recall / interrogationDemo: waking scene and accident conversationWho are you, what happened, and what do you remember?

The fact that a drawing test exists has been confirmed by the developers. Its chapter, rules and consequences have not.

What the demo covers

The demo is not a separate episode. It is Chapter 1 plus roughly half of Chapter 2. It includes the opening basement conversation, the bedroom exploration, the bathroom and the second day’s shark/fossil test. It ends on a scripted sequence.

Because the demo stops mid-Chapter 2, it cannot tell us how many tests appear in the full chapter. It can tell us the rhythm: a conversation-heavy opening, a longer exploration section, then a test that combines multiple object memories.

Seven optional tests

“Optional” does not necessarily mean “missable content with no consequence.” The developer says some of these tests are easier to find if you dig deeper, and that they can range from a simple question to a more elaborate sequence. Until the full game is in players’ hands, we do not know whether optional tests unlock additional endings, change Mom’s trust, or simply add context.

For launch, the practical advice is simple: inspect objects beyond the obvious story items, revisit rooms after a test, and experiment with word pairs that are not obviously useful. Our Word Fusion Lab is built to track that kind of discovery.

Do tests determine the endings?

HO! Games has confirmed 13 endings and a large number of dialogue choices. It has not published an ending guide, a chapter-by-chapter route map or any condition. We therefore treat “tests determine the endings” as a reasonable inference, not a confirmed mechanic.

The demo supports the idea that a conversation can end a run, but it is carefully authored to produce a specific final beat. The full game may gate endings by chapter, relationship state, a single choice or a combination of factors. We will only publish ending conditions when they can be verified from the released game.

How to prepare for the full game

  • Play the demo once without a guide. It teaches the word language better than any list.
  • Then read the mechanics guide. Learn the loop before you learn specific recipes.
  • Keep a notebook of your own combinations. The full game has too many possibilities to memorise casually.
  • Explore each room to completion. At least seven tests are specifically described as easier to miss.
  • Expect to replay. Thirteen endings are a strong signal that one linear playthrough is not the intended use.

What we do not know

  • The names of the five chapters.
  • The names or unlock conditions of the 15+ main tests and seven optional tests.
  • How endings are determined, or whether some are mutually exclusive.
  • Whether the full game has autosaves, manual saves, or a chapter-select system.
  • Official full-game length, price, launch-time details and final platform list.
Do not trust a pre-release test list

Any site publishing “all 15 Am I Nima tests” before November 27, 2026 is either working from a review build or filling gaps with speculation. We will publish a complete, verified test index only after the game is available and the content can be checked.
