Five files, two confirmed family members, one dead father, one fish, and a voice that may not be a person at all. The line between character and theory matters here.
Official key art / HO! Games01 The cast so far
The demo contains only a handful of people, but it already asks whether “person” is the right category. These profiles stick to what the demo and official material establish.

Nima’s mother / “Mom”The woman holding Nima in the basement. She calls herself Nima’s mother, runs her “tests” and controls access to the rest of the house.

Father / memoryA presence in Nima’s memories rather than a character you meet in the demo. He is tied to the aquarium, the shark plush and Nima’s grief.
Pet fish / memory objectA pet fish with a very deliberate name. James Pond is part of the life Nima had before the basement, and one of the demo’s lighter discoveries.
Unidentified internal presenceIn the demo, some thoughts do not sound like Nima. They are colder, more strategic, and sometimes violent. The game shows them without naming them.
“Confirmed” means the demo or a first-party source establishes the detail. It does not mean the character is telling the truth inside the fiction. The mother is an unreliable narrator and the demo deliberately withholds context.
02 The family tree
Nima’s father is dead. Her mother is present and controlling. James Pond is a pet fish. The voice is uninvited. The only other family member the word web keeps trying to name is the version of Nima her mother wants back.
03 Theory control
Theories are not forbidden. They are just not allowed to wear a “fact” badge. These are the questions the game wants you to sit with.
The demo’s imagery and the family’s language about loss make the question unavoidable. The studio has not confirmed that Nima is literally dead, resurrected or possessed.
Many players connect the fossil and the second voice to a parasite. That is an interpretation of visual and narrative evidence, not an official creature description.
The demo gives the player reasons to distrust Mom’s account. It does not confirm what happened to Nima, what happened to her father, or how much Mom knew.
